In 1987, ShowBiz Pizza Time, Inc. acquired the chain and began re-branding it as “Monterey's Tex-Mex Cafe,” shifting to a more upscale dining experience while reducing the number of locations. By 1994 the chain was sold off and is now operated under the name Monterey's Little Mexico.
