Meme Coin or Collectible? A Field Guide to Tokens That Moon

A meme coin runs on affection and nothing else. So does a collectible token, with one improvement: it is also an object you can hold.

Updated Jun 24, 2026

A meme coin is a token whose value rests entirely on affection. There is no revenue, no utility, no reserve, only a community that has agreed, for now, to care. Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, and their many descendants are held aloft by enthusiasm and nothing else, which is presented as a weakness and is, in fact, the one honest thing about them.

We mention this because the collectible token operates on the same principle, with one improvement: it is also an object.

Both run on affection

It is worth admitting plainly. A 1990s Chuck E. Cheese token has no cash flow either. Its value, like a meme coin's, comes from people deciding it is worth caring about. The difference is what remains when the caring is examined.

When you stop believing in a meme coin, you hold a number that has fallen. When you stop believing in a brass token, you still hold a brass token. It does not require your faith to keep existing. It will sit on the shelf, unbothered, until your affection returns, which it usually does.

A field guide to the difference

Quality Meme coin Collectible token
Value source Community affection Community affection
Survives loss of faith No Yes
Can be held No Yes
Lost down a storm drain Spiritually Literally, which raises the rest

The community of affection here numbers 137 collectors holding 846 tokens. When the vibe shifts, the tokens do not evaporate. They become slightly rarer and quietly wait.

The verdict

If your store of value must run on vibes, choose the vibe that comes with a disc of metal attached. To understand what turns affection into durable worth, read what drives token values, or return to the field guide to tokens.

In brass we trust.
